About This Tour
Journey along the breathtaking, rugged Atlantic coastline on a comprehensive full-day excursion to the historic and enchanting city of Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador. This expertly guided tour begins with an incredibly scenic drive north from Agadir, winding through the unique, globally recognized Argan biosphere reserve. Along this route, you will witness the famous, gravity-defying 'goats on trees'—a bizarre and wonderful local phenomenon—and stop to visit a traditional, women-run Argan oil cooperative to learn how this 'liquid gold' is laboriously extracted by hand.
Upon arriving in Essaouira, you will immediately feel the laid-back, bohemian atmosphere that has attracted artists, musicians, and travelers for decades. Accompanied by our knowledgeable guide, you will step through the monumental gates of the ancient, UNESCO-listed Medina. Inside, you will wander through a highly photogenic labyrinth of white-washed buildings adorned with vibrant, iconic blue doors. You will explore the bustling, colorful souks filled with fragrant spices, hand-woven carpets, and intricate Thuya wood craftsmanship, unique to this specific region of Morocco.
The tour continues as you walk along the imposing, cannon-lined walls of the historic Skala du Port fortress, which famously served as a filming location for 'Game of Thrones'. From these ramparts, you have unmatched views of the bustling fishing harbor below, crowded with hundreds of traditional, brightly painted blue wooden boats. You will have ample free time to enjoy a spectacularly fresh, ocean-to-plate seafood lunch at the port or relax on the sweeping sandy beach before the comfortable, air-conditioned transport returns you to Agadir.
