Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history and culture of southern Morocco with a full-day excursion to the ancient, walled city of Taroudant. Often affectionately referred to as 'Mini Marrakech' or the 'Grandmother of Marrakech', Taroudant is located just a scenic drive east of Agadir along the fertile Souss Valley. As you approach the city, you will be greeted by the sight of its majestic, highly preserved 16th-century red mud-brick ramparts, which glow spectacularly in the afternoon sun and provide a stunning backdrop against the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains.
Inside the city walls, you will experience the authentic, unhurried pace of traditional Moroccan life. Accompanied by our expert guide, you will explore the vibrant, sprawling souks (markets) which are far less touristy than those in Marrakech. Taroudant is particularly famous for its master craftsmen; you will have the opportunity to browse exquisite, hand-crafted silver jewelry, intricate leather goods, and fragrant spices. Following the city tour, the journey continues to the tranquil Berber village of Tiout, a lush, sprawling palm oasis famous for starring in the classic movie 'Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves'.
In Tiout, you will enjoy a guided, peaceful walk through the dense palm groves, learning about the ancient irrigation systems and the local agricultural lifestyle. The day culminates with a mouth-watering, highly authentic Moroccan lunch served in a traditional setting with panoramic views overlooking the oasis and the kasbah. Offering a perfect blend of medieval architecture, vibrant markets, and lush nature, this day trip is a cultural masterpiece.
